Milton Sports Centre

Milton remains one of the fastest growing communities in Canada with a population that is young, diverse, and very active.  As a result, a tremendous amount of pressure is felt by the sports and recreation centres trying to serve the community.  In 2009, a design-build joint-venture between architects Tillmann Ruth Robinson, BBB architects, and Ball Construction won the opportunity to more than double the size of the existing sports centre, and breathe new life into an overworked facility by adding two more ice pads and introducing a double gymnasium, an aerobics studio, an aquatic centre, and extensive support and administration spaces.

Large expanses of glass now connect the visitor to the outside when enjoying the pool or arena. Bright daylit interiors are complimented by the extensive use of wood and natural colours.  The exterior is modern, bold, and dynamic - fitting well with the young community who will call it home. The new addition ambitiously meets the stringent Facilities Accessibility Design Standards and is currently pending LEED Silver certification.

We have found architects Tillmann Ruth Robinson to be a quality firm with design expertise and a depth of resources that were able to address our varying requirements. Our relationship with aTRR was very positive as was their working relationship with the general contractor and the sub-contractors throughout the project.
